Mauritius honeymoon beach resorts are legend the world over. Mark Twain said “that Mauritius was made first and then heaven, and that heaven was copied after Mauritius.” Walking down the white beaches of the west coast, with the ocean to one side and the tropical forest cloaking the mountains to the other side it is easy to forget that you aren’t in fact in paradise, just something close.
The town of Grand Baie on the northern coast is where Mauritians go when they want a night out. For a spicy taste of island cuisine head to the food stalls on Royal Road. A stones throw away from the beach, the stalls offer a selection of delicious snacks including the local specialty of gateux piments. None-spicy food is also available from the stalls but make sure to ask when you’re buying something you don’t recognise. A meal here costs between 10 and 20 Rupees per person. A leisure haven, Grand Baie is highly recommended for shoppers and its night life. You can also take a helicopter excursion from here to see the island from the air.
